29 CFR 1926.850(j): Except for the cutting of holes in floors for chutes, holes through which to drop materials, preparation of storage space, and similar necessary preparatory work, the demolition of exterior walls and floor construction did not at the top of the structure and proceed downward. Each story of exterior wall and floor construction was not removed and dropped into the storage space before commencing the removal of exterior walls and floors in the story next below. a) 801 Boxwood Road, GM Assembly Plant, Wilmington, DE: On or about January 11, 2019, the employer failed to ensure the demolition of exterior walls and floor construction started at the top of the structure and proceed downward. Exterior walls of the ground level were mechanically removed before the demolition of the second story occurred. Employees were exposed to crushing hazards due to a potential unplanned collapse while cutting ground level structural steel columns within the structure while the upper floor remained intact.
