Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.218(a)(2): Inspection and maintenance. It shall be the responsibility of the employer to maintain all forge shop equipment in a condition which will insure continued safe operation. On April 18, 2017, and at times prior to, the employer did not inspect and maintain the safe condition of a point of operation protection device (pull back handles). The pull back handles (which were used in lieu of a two-hand control unit) are used as a safeguard device to ensure that employees maintain concurrent hand placement during the cycling of the Greenlee 35 ton, hydraulic trim press.
