North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: a)facility, service bay - employee(s) worked under, near, and adjacent to a single pedestal hydraulic automotive lift (Lift #1, Joyce, no other data available), which was not maintained in a safe operating status. The lift was not provided with automatic locking devices. b)facility, service bay - the employer did not supply and display operating instructions for employee(s) who worked under, near, and adjacent to employee(s) worked under, near, and adjacent to a single pedestal hydraulic automotive lift (Lift #1, Joyce, no other data available). c)facility, service bay - the employer did not provide safe operator training for employee(s) worked under, near, and adjacent to a single pedestal hydraulic automotive lift (Lift #1, Joyce, no other data available) and a Magnum, model P12, serial number 8335, Lift #5, with 12,000 pound capacity, a Magnum Bend, model SR9C, serial Number 10462, Lift #3, with 9,000 pound capacity and a Magnum Wheel Tronic, model 817768, serial number 02438, Lift #4, with 9,000 pound capacity. d)facility, service bay - employee(s) worked under, near, and adjacent to a single pedestal hydraulic automotive lift (Lift #1, Joyce, no other data available) and a Magnum, model P12, serial number 8335, Lift #5, with 12,000 pound capacity, a Magnum Bend, model SR9C, serial Number 10462, Lift #3, with 9,000 pound capacity and a Magnum Wheel Tronic, model 817768, serial number 02438, Lift #4, with 9,000 pound capacity, which were not the subject of periodic inspections. ABATEMENT NOTE: 1)Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to: a)perform repairs and maintenance to the lifts b)obtain and display safe operating procedures near the lifts c)train operators in the safe operation of the lifts d)perform periodic inspections to ensure the lifts are maintained in a safe condition.
