Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being crushed by the equipment or thrown into moving traffic in the event of equipment failure: a- Route 295 Ramp D overpass over Route 76, Gloucester NJ - Employees working from the basket of the Aero Lift Model TVH single column vertical rotating tower, were not wearing body belts with lanyards attached to the proper tie off points within the lift basket as specified by the equiment's manufacturer. Condition noted on or about 01/09/10. AMONG OTHER MEANS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD WOULD BE THE COMPANY TO REQUIRE EMPLOYEES, USING THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT, TO WEAR HARNESS WITH LANYARD ATTACHED TO PROPER TIE OFF POINT(S) IN BASKET AS REQUIRED BY THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER.
