North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees due to electric shock hazards and struck by hazards due to improper maintenance and cleaning operations of the strip-paint drying oven: a)facility, SP-1, 2,and 3 - no daily inspection for proper operating conditions and for obvious deterioration were conducted on the ovens. b)facility, SP-1, 2,and 3 - water sprinkler system was provided as a fire extinguishing system for the high voltage electric powered ovens. This condition creates a shock hazard for employees during a fire emergency. c)facility, SP-1, 2,and 3 - compressed air was used to clean paint residue off the ovens components, causing a high velocity dust that could penetrate the eyes. ABATEMENT NOTE: 1)Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct these hazards is to provide proper procedures for personnel performing maintenance on the ovens.
