Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of being struck-by falling loads: (a)On or about 07/24/09 - Line #4, the latch installed on an under-hung hoist(s) was not being utilized in that the chain being used was too large for the hook rendering the safety latch inoperable. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to comply with the requirements of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Standard ASME B30.10-1993, Hooks, Section 10-1.2.1.2, Frequent Inspection, Paragraph 10-1.2.3(4).
