Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm due to fall hazards: At the worksite: On or about November 20, 2008, and at times prior thereto, the employer required the use of the well service rig (workover rig) hoist to elevate an employee to various levels above the ground using the equivalent to a boatswain's chair without a lifeline. The employee was exposed to the type of hazards associated with falls from heights. Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to comply with American National Standard (ANSI) ANSI/ASSE A10.22, Safety Requirements for Rope- Guided and Non-Guided Workers' Hoists.
