Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
Labor and Employment Article, Section 5-104(a): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a)Date of Violation:05/27/08 Location:Warehouse Condition:Employees were exposed to potential dust explosion and fire hazards from ignition of the contents of a paper dust collection system that was not equipped with isolation devices to prevent deflagration propagation from air material separators upstream to the work area or downstream to the recycled air exhaust, nor was the system equipped with deflagration vents directed to a safe restricted area. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to ensure that the dust collection system met all applicable standards, including but not limited to those guidelines outlined in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 654 Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Dust Explosions of Combustible or Particulate Solids. Abatement documentation (photographs, receipts, copies of programs, training certification, etc.) is required for this item.
