Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees operate powered industrial trucks without utilizing the operator restraining devices (seat belts) provided in the trucks. This condition is likely to result in serious injury or death to employees in the event of a truck rollover or tipover. (a) Facility, 685 State Street, Vanport, Pennsylvania 15009: On or about 1/10/2008, an employee in the plastics department, was operating a powered industrial truck without utilizing the operator restraining device (seat belt) supplied/installed in the truck. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard is to: 1.Train and/or retrain employees in accordance with ANSI/ITSDF, B56.1-2005, Safety Standards for Low Lift and High Lift Powered Industrial Trucks. 2.Ensure that employees who are operating powered industrial trucks use the personal restraining devices supplied and installed by the equipment manufacturer.alled
