Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of steam burns due to inadequate inspection and maintenance of high pressure high temperature water piping systems: In that throughout the power station employees were exposed to the hazard of serious burns from high pressure high temperature water lines which were not adequately inspected nor properly maintained. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to implement a written routine, periodic inspection protocol on all components of high pressure high temperature water piping system(s) including, but not limited to, supporting elements (i.e. anchors and supports) and piping erosion/corrosion monitoring as described in American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code for Pressure Piping B31.1 - 2004 Edition. Abatement certification is required for this item (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
