Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by and crushing hazards due to unrestrained loads with the potential to fall. a) Auto Service Area- Employees were permitted to operate automotive lifts without the required swing-arm-pivot restraints in place. Abatement Note: One useful and feasible abatement method is to comply with the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM-2000, Standard for Automotive Lifts- Safety Requirements for the Operation, Inspection and Maintenance- in its entirety.
