Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: OTHER
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to diseases associated with unsanitary working conditions: a) On or about April 22, 2004 and at times prior, Mountain Prairie L.L.C. did not ensure that employees were protected from diseases. 1. The showers used by the employees on a daily basis at the farms were dirty, moldy, and unsanitary. 2. Food preparation areas in the lunch rooms were dirty and unsanitary. 3. Clothes washing areas were dirty and the trashcans not emptied regularly. 4. Vaccination and insemination supplies, (i.e., used insemination tubes, spilled drugs, sharps, used drug bottles) are found in the above areas and throughout the farms. Among others, a feasible and acceptable metnod of abatement to correct this hazard is: a) Implement a program which addresses sanitation on the farms, clean the dirty areas, and maintain the program.
