Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of crushing injury due to inadequate preventive maintenance of automotive lifts: a) Midas, 101 North Avenue, Grand Junction, CO: The employer had not established a periodic preventive maintenance procedure in accordance with the recommendations of the lift manufacturers to ensure the continued safe operation of the five lifts used in the facility. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to utilize the manufacturers information provided with the lifts as described in a publication titled "Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance of Automotive Lifts" published in 1994 by the Automotive Lift Institute or, consult with automotive lift professionals to determine appropriate preventive maintenance.
