Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a)the hazard of receiving thermal burns during a rig fire while working from the finger board/monkeyboard of the mast of the #1 Workover Rig, located at the Edelblute Number 1 well, Powerline Road, Rosenberg, TX. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to provide an emergency escape means (such as a "Geronimo line") for any employee working from the fingerboard/monkeyboard, as specified by Section 6.10.1 of the American Petroleum Institute (API) Standard RP 54-1999, "Recommended Practices for Occupational Safety and Health for Oil and Gas Well Drilling and Servicing Operations."
