Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of vehicles falling while working under them when using fabricated support stands that did not meet ASME PALD standards. a) The saddle of the fabricated vehicle support stands were not configured such as to aid in the proper positioning, supporting, and retaining of the load in that the resting surface was irregular, smooth, and did not provide an adequate contact surface between the vehicle and the saddle surface. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to purchase and use commercially manufactured vehicle support stands that incorporate the requirements of ASME PALD. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
