Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of electrical shock, burns and or electrocution: (a)M/V Sea Alaska: A 220 volt electrical power panel, number B-8, located in the engine room welding shop, contained a 3 inch by 2-1/2 inch wide unused opening which revealed exposed live electrical parts, in the circuit breaker cover plate. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to insert an approved snap in type cover plate into the hole.
