29 CFR 1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a. On or about September 9, 2024, and at times prior, the employer did not ensure that there was adequate hand protection against thermal burns when cleaning off the glue on the bag sealer of Production Line 1. As a result, employees were exposed to contact with harmful temperature extremes. b. On or about September 9, 2024, and at times prior, the employer did not ensure that there was adequate hand protection against thermal burns when cleaning off the glue on the bag sealer of Production Line 2. As a result, employees were exposed to contact with harmful temperature extremes. c. On or about September 9, 2024, and at times prior, the employer did not ensure that there was adequate hand protection against thermal burns when cleaning off the glue on the bag sealer of Production Line 4. As a result, employees were exposed to contact with harmful temperature extremes. d. On or about September 9, 2024, and at times prior, the employer did not ensure that there was adequate hand protection against thermal burns when cleaning off the glue on the bag sealer of Production Line 6.
