1910.212(a)(1) Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. On or about July 23, 2024, the employer did not ensure one or more methods of machine guarding was provided to protect the pail line mechanic employees from hazards created by the point of operation, ingoing nips points, and/or rotating parts of the pail line turnover #2 machine, also known as the turnover 11.25 spin flange machine. The casing (barrier guard) that covered the chains, sprockets, and other ingoing nip points and rotating parts of the machine was removed, exposing pail line mechanic employees to caught-in moving machinery hazards.
