29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems were not made by a competent person prior to the start of work, or as needed throughout the shift, for evidence of a situation that could result in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, or other hazardous conditions. a) On April 1, 2024, at the above addressed jobsite, daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems were not made by a competent person prior to the start of work, employees were exposed to cave-in hazards while performing work in an unprotected excavation measuring approximately 7 feet 3 inches deep. No abatement certification or documentation is required for this item.
