Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1): A portable ladder was used for access to an upper landing, and the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet above the upper landing, or was not secured: (a) C.G.R.S., Inc., 1525-1555 Sherman Street (Alley), Denver, CO, 80203: On or before March 20, 2024, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from fall hazards in that extension ladder did not extend 3 feet above the upper landing edge of the excavation. Employees accessed the excavation using extension ladders to an upper concrete surface edge. This condition exposed employees to fall hazards of approximately 6 to 10 feet into the excavation below. (b) C.G.R.S., Inc., 1525-1555 Sherman Street (Alley), Denver, CO, 80203: On or before March 20, 2024, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from slip and/or fall hazards when using an extension ladder to access an excavation in that the ladder extension was positioned such that deflection under a load, by itself, would cause the ladder to slip off its support. This condition exposed employees to fall hazards of approximately 6 to 10 feet into the excavation below.
