29 CFR 1910.219(f)(3): Sprockets and chains. All sprocket wheels and chains shall be enclosed unless they are more than seven (7) feet above the floor or platform. Where the drive extends over other machine or working areas, protection against falling shall be provided. This subparagraph does not apply to manually operated sprockets. a. On or about January 30, 2024, located at the Ohio Mulch Supply, Inc. Performance Way location, at the Prime Conveyor bag flattener with serial number 10216-2002, there were two sprocket wheels, approximately 13 inches from the ground and 2.5 inches in diameter, that were not guarded. As a result, an employee was exposed to lacerations and abrasion hazards when manually feeding mulch bags into the bag flattener.
