Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems were not made by a competent person for evidence of a situation that could have resulted in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, or other hazardous conditions: a) Worksite - On or about October 13, 2023, employees were exposed to caught-in and struck-by hazards due to working in an approximately 13 feet deep and 45 feet in length trench without cave-in protection in place. There was no competent person at the worksite that could identify and remove the employee from the hazards such as, but not limited to, the excavation wall being approximately 13 feet deep, egress exceeding 25 feet, and water coming out of the soil and stream bed that accumulated water in the trench area.
