Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning. Compressed air shall not be used for cleaning purposes except where reduced to less than 30 p.s.i. and then only with effective chip guarding and personal protective equipment. On or about May 31, 2023, the employer allowed employees to use compressed air for cleaning purposes without a reduction to less than 30 p.s.i. exposing employees to injuries related to compressed air entering the body such as swelling, severe pain, or air embolism. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
