Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.95(k)(1):The employer shall train each employee who is exposed to noise at or above an 8-hour time weighted average of 85 decibels in accordance with the requirements of this section. The employer shall institute a training program and ensure employee participation in the program. On or about June 3, 2022, operators working on a one-man dismantler pallet machine were exposed to high noise levels equivalent or exceeding the 8-hour time weighted average (TWA) of 85 dBA and the employer did not ensure training was provided on various elements of a hearing conservation program such as, but not limited to, the effects of noise, hearing protection, and audiometric testing for the following: a. On or about June 3, 2022, a #2 bandsaw operator was exposed to noise at 505.6% of the permissible daily dose, or an average sound level of 101.6 dBA, as measured over 480 minutes of sampling. This dose is equivalent to an 8 hour TWA exposure of 101.7 dBA accounting for the period of 0 minutes unmonitored. b. On or about June 3, 2022, a smartsaw operator was exposed to noise at 209.4% of the permissible daily dose, or an average sound level of 95.5 dBA, as measured over 471 minutes of sampling. This does is equivalent to an 8 hour TWA exposure of 95.3 dBA accounting for the period of 9 minutes unmonitored. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
