29 CFR 1910.179(n)(2)(iii): The employer did not ensure that care was taken to prevent the sling from contacting obstacles. (a) Finishing Department: On or about March 13, 2020, the employer did not take effective precautions to insure the eight (8) foot long, 2 chain sling connected to the 40 ton capacity crane would clear obstacles in the path of travel. During rigging of a concrete panel, the chain sling was raised by the crane hoist, which caught on a metal gusset cast into back side of the panel, and caused the panel to lift slightly and flip off the A- frame concrete panel stand. This exposed employees to crushing hazards.
