Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:

29 CFR 1910.272(h)(2)(i): Each employee who walks or stands on or in stored grain or grain products of a depth which poses an engulfment hazard, all equipment which presents a danger to that employee shall be deenergized, and shall be disconnected, locked-out and tagged, blocked-off, or otherwise prevented from operating by other equally effective means or methods: The employer is failing to protect employees from grain engulfment hazards associated with flat grain storage structure to include grain removal and transfer activities. This condition was most recently documented on February 22, 2019, at 200 S. Main, Cimarron, Kansas. An employee entered into the flat storage structure, with approximately 350,000 bushels of wheat, to remove the bulk head without the auger disconnected, locked-out and tagged, blocked-off, or otherwise prevented from operating. The employee became engulfed in the flowing grain created by the running auger.
