Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.36(e)(2): The door that connects any room to an exit route did not swing out in the direction of exit travel if the room is designed to be occupied by more than 50 people or if the room was a high hazard area (i.e., contains contents that are likely to burn with extreme rapidity or explode): Employees were exposed to tripping, egress, explosion and fire hazards in case of emergency created by accumulation of grain dust. Employees engaged in housekeeping and grain handling activities in the Feed Mill and Elevator at the following areas were exposed to tripping, egress, explosion and fire hazards in case of emergency in that the employer failed to implement in compliance with industry practices for the installation of emergency egress doors that would by design open outward from the working areas to comply with NFPA, and life safety codes. The doors that open inward impedes the employees egress from a potentially hazardous environment in the event of fire or explosion. a) Feed Mill by the Top Floor exit area. b) Feed Mill by the Third Floor exit area. c) Elevator by the tunnel East exit area. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is complete.
