Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about 11/29/2018 employees were operating the #6 power press with light curtains that were not properly set to protect the operators from the point of operation. b) On or about 11/29/2018 two employees were operating the Cell #3 power press with (2) two hand controls to operate the press. The second set of two hand controls had electrical tape wrapped around the buttons to allow one operator to engage the power press. The computer for the press was set for two operators.
