29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation shall be protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with paragraph (b) or (c) of this section. a. Located at 5366 Central College Road in Westerville, Ohio: On or about August 6, 2018, an employee was exposed to a cave-in hazard while performing pipe laying work in an approximately nine and a half foot excavated trench adjacent to Structure 23 at the site. The employer did not ensure that the sloping and benching system used was complaint with the 1926.652(b)(1)-(b)(4) requirements.
