Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.37(a)(3): Exit routes must be free and unobstructed. No materials or equipment may be placed, either permanently or temporarily, within the exit route. The exit access must not go through a room that can be locked, such as a bathroom, to reach an exit or exit discharge, nor may it lead into a dead-end corridor. Stairs or a ramp must be provided where the exit route is not substantially level. On or about November 7, 2017 the emergency exit doors were not kept free and obstructed: a) The employer did not provide stairs where the exit route was not substantially level next to the spray booth. The exit door in the spray department had a drop of approximately 13 inches from the inside of the building to the outside. b) The employer did not provide an unobstructed exit door that was located in the finishing department. The exit was obstructed by metal racks.
