29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices,electronic safety devices, etc. a. At the workplace, on the input side of the Sealeze 55 EH laminating machine, employees were not protected from the ingoing nip point of the roller and table while feeding material into the machine, thereby exposing employees to a caught-in hazard. b. At the workplace, on the output side of the HP Scitex FB700 flat bed printer, employees were not protected from the traveling carriage while operating with the door opened, thereby exposing employees to a struck-by hazard.
