Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.215(a)(2): Guard design. The safety guard shall cover the spindle end, nut, and flange projections. The safety guard shall be mounted so as to maintain proper alignment with the wheel, and the strength of the fastenings shall exceed the strength of the guard. On or about 01 September 2016, the employer did not ensure that the spindle nut on the grinding machines had a guard to protect against employee contact on the following machines: a. Mitsui #25 b. MHT #21 This exposed employees to a caught-by hazard. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
