Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 003 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: (a) On the west side of the facility, employees were exposed to potential crushing and impact hazards while pulling railcars with the payloader using a single nylon rope. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to change the method of moving cars from pulling to pushing, or if they are pulled, use a secondary chain connected to the front of the payloader to the railcar, to totally secure the movement of the hopper car.er
