Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential injury from fire and/or explosions resulting from inadequate maintenance and inspection programs designed to eliminate ignition sources in grain dust atmosphere: Established - grain elevator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to develop and enforce a written maintenance and inspection program that list critical areas for maintenance and inspection of equipment. These areas include but are not limied to: a) bearing; lubrication, wear, loose bracket supports temperature. b) head and boot pulley; level, plumb, logging. c) leg belts; centered on head and boot pulley, belt tension. d) v-belts and pulleys; condition, alignment, tension. e) elevator legs; inspection opening for pulley logging, condition of belt, alignment of belt, bucket bolts secured, bucket alignment. f) motion detection devices; functional. g) tramp metal removal devices; clean and functional. h) dust control systems; clean and functional, lack of. i) static electricity removal devices; functional, bonded and grounded. j) electrical equipment; approved for hazardous location; grounding, temperature, condition.
