29 CFR 1910.135(a)(1): The employer shall ensure that each affected employee wears a protective helmet when working in areas where there is a potential for injury to the head from falling objects. (a) On or about February 21, 2024, the employer had not provided and ensured the use of hard hats necessary to protect employees from falling objects and flying objects while employees are using overhead cranes to perform the babbitting process and the operation of the horizontal spinner while the machine was operated above the posted Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) operating speed. The hazards of head injuries from falling objects, moving equipment, and flying debris are recognized by industry consensus standards including American Foundry Society (AFS) - "Guide for Selection and Use of Personal Protective Equipment and Special Clothing for Foundry Operations".
