Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002C Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(8): Ladders placed in a location where they could be displaced by workplace activities or traffic, such as in passageways, doorways, or driveways, were not secured to prevent accidental displacement, nor was a barricade used to keep the activities or traffic away from the ladder: (a) Luis Ortiz Roofing, at 425 Wood Road, Snowmass Village, CO: On 8/28/18, the employer did not ensure that ladders placed in a location where they could be displaced by workplace activities or traffic, such as in passageways, doorways, or driveways, were secured to prevent accidental displacement, nor was a barricade used to keep the activities or traffic away from the ladder Employees were re-roofing a four story condominium complex. An aluminum extension ladder permitted access from the ground to the roof of the second floor. A rope, used as a lifeline by employees crossing the roof, was tied to the side rail of the extension ladder. The extension ladder was not secured to prevent displacement by the lifeline. This condition exposed employees to an approximate twenty foot fall hazard.
