Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002C Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) ....the hazard of being struck by railroad cars. Near Elevator D at the 2 Mill truck, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by railroad cars during derailment due to approximately 300' of railroad track having rotted/ deteriorated ties causing the rails to sink when traveled over. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abate- ment is to: 1. Replace the deteriorated rail tracks. b) ....the hazard of being struck by railroad cars. At the roadway outside Building 7 and 20, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by railroad cars and trucks from loading unloading stations without any gates or sings, warning lights, audible alarms, or other means in use to alert other traffic in the area of their presence. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abate- ment is to: 1. Erect a stop sign on each and to slow traffic in the area. 2. Install flashing lights or signs. 3.
