29 CFR 1910.219(f)(3): Sprockets and chains. All sprocket wheels and chains shall be enclosed unless they are more than seven (7) feet above the floor or platform. Where the drive extends over other machine or working areas, protection against falling shall be provided. This subparagraph does not apply to manually operated sprockets. On or about February 18, 2025, at the previously addressed job site, employees were performing servicing and maintenance in direct proximity of an unguarded sprocket and chain resulting in an amputation injury.
