29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE): (a) At 112 Plugs Drive, Decatur, AL; In the West Plant, Boiler Room: On or about 10/24/2024, the employer did not conduct a thorough workplace hazard assessment for personal protective equipment when employees were tasked with conducting boiler blowdowns, exposing them to water which reaches above 340 degrees Fahrenheit at boiler #1. (b) At 112 Plugs Drive, Decatur, AL; In the West Plant, Boiler Room: On or about 10/24/2024, the employer did not conduct a thorough workplace hazard assessment for personal protective equipment when employees were tasked with conducting boiler blowdowns, exposing them to water in the machines which reaches above 340 degrees Fahrenheit at boiler # 2. (c) At 112 Plugs Drive, Decatur, AL; In the West Plant, Boiler Room: On or about 10/24/2024, the employer did not conduct a thorough workplace hazard assessment for personal protective equipment when employees were tasked with conducting boiler blowdowns, exposing them to fluid in the machines which reaches above 340 degrees Fahrenheit at boiler #3. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
