29 CFR 1910.134(h)(2)(i): Respirators were not stored to protect them from damage, contamination, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, and damaging chemicals or were not packed or stored to prevent deformation of the facepiece and exhalation valve: a) Cathode Powder Mixing Room/ Electrode Department- On or about 6/30/2023, and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to respiratory hazards associated with Nickel, Cobalt and Manganese in that, the employer did not ensure that respirators issued to employees were stored to protect them from material contamination. Employees were required to use 3M Versaflo Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) TR300N+ECK for dumping material to the hoppers. b) Anode Powder Mixing Room/ Electrode Department- On or about 6/30/2023, and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to respiratory hazards associated with Nickel, Cobalt and Manganese in that, the employer did not ensure that respirators issued to employees were stored to protect them from material contamination. Employees were required to use 3M Versaflo Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) TR300N+ECK for dumping material to the hoppers. c) Locker area at Powder Mixing Room/ Electrode Department- On or about 6/30/2023, and at times prior, the employer exposed employees to respiratory hazards associated with Nickel, Cobalt and Manganese in that, the employer did not ensure that respirators issued to employees were stored to protect them from material contamination.
