29 CFR 1910.38(d): Employee alarm system. An employer must have and maintain an employee alarm system. The employee alarm system must use a distinctive signal for each purpose and comply with the requirements in 1910.165. (a) On or about July 17, 2021, the Simplex 4100-9311 alarm system was not activated to warn employees of the need to evacuate due to a gas leak near door S2 and the overhead garage door in the ARG packaging area. Many employees reported they could not smell the gas leak immediately due to wearing face masks to comply with the employer's COVID-19 pandemic policy.
