29 CFR 1910.25(b)(7): The employer did not ensure that standard stairs are used to provide access from one walking-working surface to another when operations necessitate regular and routine travel between levels, including access to operating platforms for equipment. Winding stairways may be used on tanks and similar round structures when the diameter of the tank or structure is at least 5 feet (1.5 m). a. On or about March 11, 2021 and at times prior, at a work platform of the metal sorting line where an inclined trash conveyor passed, the employer did not provide standard stairs to access the work platform where an employee routinely worked. To access the work platform employees used a step ladder when the ladder side rails were collapsed and were exposed to falls. b.
