29 CFR 1910.140(c)(20): Ropes, belts, lanyards, lifelines, and harnesses used for personal fall protection must be protected from being cut, abraded, melted, or otherwise damaged. a. On or about 01 May 2017, employees were exposed to fall hazards when they were required to work inside racks to clean up product that had fallen off of pallets. Employees were required to climb off of the platform of order picker forklifts and onto the racking shelves at heights of up to thirty (30) feet to complete their assigned tasks. Employees were exposed to a fall hazard in the event that their harnesses came into contract with the sharp edges of the racking system components and were cut or abraded. b. On or about 25 April 2017, employees were required to work on a conveyor system while tied off to the anchor point on order picker forklifts. Employees were exposed to a fall hazard in the event that their harnesses came into contract with the sharp edges of the racking system components and were cut or abraded. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
