29 CFR 1910.37(b)(5): Each doorway or passage along an exit access that could be mistaken for an exit is not marked "Not an Exit" or similar designation, or be identified by a sign indicating its actual use (e.g. closet): Employees working in the body shop and fabrication shop are exposed to burns and smoke inhalation, in the event of fire, and the employer does not ensure that each door that could be mistaken for an exit is marked "Not an Exit" or by a sign indicating its actual use. This violation was last observed on September 6, 2016, in the body shop. a) An unmarked door in the body shop opened to a restroom b) An unmarked door in the body shop opened to a store room c) An unmarked door in the fabrication shop opened to the office d) An unmarked door in the fabrication shop opened to a supply room To abate this violation, the employer must ensure that all doors that could be mistaken for an exit is marked "Not an Exit" or similar designation or be identified by a sign indicating its actual use. Pursuant to 29 CFR 1903.19, the employer must submit documents describing the steps it is taking to ensure compliance, including a copy of site-specific program detailing the procedures used to ensure compliance and training of employees.
