Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:
29 CFR 1926.454(a): The employer shall have each employee who performs work while on scaffold trained by a person qualified in the subject matter to recognize the hazards associated with the type of scaffold being used and to understand the procedures to control or minimize those hazards; the training shall include but not limited to the nature of any electrical hazards, fall hazards, and falling object hazards in the work area and any other pertinent requirements of this subpart. On October 30, 2020, at 1008 Mcindoe Street in Wausau, Wisconsin, the employer did not provide required scaffold safety training for employees exposed to fall hazards while working on scaffold platforms. Employees were working from scaffold planks supported by the top caps of stepladders, eight feet above surface level. There was no grab rail and/or device available to access/egress the work platform, the top of a stepladder was used as a step, and the scaffold plank was positioned above the second highest rungs, exposing employees to fall hazards.
