29 CFR 1926.651(c)(2): A stairway, ladder, ramp or other safe means of egress was not located in trench excavations that were 4 feet (1.22m) or more in depth so as to require no more than 25 feet (7.62m) of lateral travel for employees. a) Worksite, northwest corner of building foundation, inside leaching pit trench: Employees were performing trenching and excavation operations and the employer did not provide employees with an adequate ladder, ramp, or other safe means of egress from the leaching pit trench. Due to the lack of safe egress, employees had to climb out of a 4ft cement ring, then used an 8ft. A-frame ladder balanced on top of the concrete ring, to crawl up another 2ft to the dirt ledge to exit the leaching pit trench ; on or about 01/28/2020. Note: In addition to abatement certification, the employer is required to submit abatement documentation for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.
