Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:
29 CFR 1910.132(a): Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. a. On and/or before August 30, 2018, in the melt department, the employer did not ensure that employees performing activities such as furnace tapping, pouring, operating crane, weighing raw materials, and any other activities in the areas where molten metal was handled wore the proper protective clothing to protect the body and extremities against thermal burns. Adequate protective clothing includes, but is not limited to, the following: flame resistant (FR) jackets, aluminized clothing, and/or, leggings/chaps/spats.
