Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard:

29 CFR 1910.177(g)(6): Tires may be inflated only when contained within a restraining device, positioned behind a barrier or bolted on the vehicle with the lug nuts fully tightened: The employer is failing to protect employees from struck-by hazards. This violation was most recently documented at a worksite located at or near 88818 543 Ave., Bloomfield, Nebraska, 68718 on January 18, 2018. The employer failed to ensure that an employee was inflating single rim tires only when inside of a restraining device, behind a barrier or bolted on a vehicle. An employee was injured on January 11, 2018 when a wheel that had been inflated on a rim outside of a tire cage was held upright, and the rim separated from the tire, striking the employee resulting in a broken leg. Abatement certification and abatement documentation is required for this violation. The documentation should include written verification of abatement, applicable measurements or monitoring results, and photographs or videos which you believe will be helpful. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed.
