Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck by an overturning truck crane and its load due to the lack of proper examination of the crane operator. At the jobsite at Schenectady International, an employee was struck by an overturning truck crane. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to require crane operators to pass a practical examination and the examination shall be limited to the specific type of equipment which he will operate as specified by paragraph 15-3.2.3-o of American National Standard, ANSI B30.5.
