Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 002A Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to falling loads: a) Employees used a Krane Kar crane (Model A14, Ser. #15415) to lift and transport hot trim presses throughout the forge. The load weights were unknown to the riggers and operators thus exposing them to injury. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among others one feasible and acceptable way to abate this hazard is to determine the weight of objects to be lifted to assure they are within set limits of the crane and rigging hardware or to equip the crane with a load indicator device.
